„We are pleased to have a new collective agreement that recognizes the significant contributions of our employees and allows Es Western to serve our customers who, through their purchases, support thousands of jobs on the B.C. coast,“ said Don Demens, President and CEO. „We are focused on planning for a safe return to employment and, while our goal is to start operating as quickly as possible, commissioning will depend on the availability of staff and contractors, market demand, weather conditions and sufficient wood supply.“ The new agreement also provides for improvements in health and social protection services and clarifies the application of Western alcohol and drug policy. Western maintained its management rights to operate other layers, while accepting a strengthened position verification process. The agreement also provides the company with additional operational flexibility in its logging operation by allowing the introduction of SUPPLÉMENTAIRES contractors to ensure that it meets its annual reduction requirements. Western Forest Products Inc. announced that its hourly employees, represented by United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 (ETC), have voted in favour of the interim agreement to replace the collective agreement that expires on June 14, 2019. The new five-year collective agreement will enter into force on 15 June 2019 and expire on 14 June 2024 and provides for general wage increases: year 1: 3 per cent Year 2: 2 per cent Year 3: 2 per cent Year 4: 3 per cent Year 5: 2.5 per cent.
